Purple Cone Flower - Echinacea purpurea
Echinacea is renowned for its abilty to influence the immune system. In the UK we usually grow E. purpurea as it is better suited to our climate. This member of the Rudbeckia family of flowers is an excellent garden flower as well as having its medicinal properties.
The root is used medicinally but in this species, the root takes time to mature and is best harvested after 3-4 years in the ground. The plant has long been used to boost immunity but it is also considered to have anti-microbial and wound healing abilities.
